Healers

One of the Aelin ranks.

A Healer is a professional who practises medicine, which is concerned with promoting, maintaining or restoring aelinuan health through the study, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, injury, and other physical and mental impairments.

A new Healer is called an 'in-training medic' (or just medic) and receives training before becoming a certified Healer, also known as a clinician. A specialist is a Healer who has enough experience and has decided to specialise in a specific area rather than remaining a clinician or turning to a different discipline (such as Chemist, Claviger, Psychiatrist or Researcher). Around 58% of Healers remain in the primary department rather than shifting into the disciplines.

The suzerain for the Healers are known as the Leads, e.g. the Lead Chemist. Healers have several buildings, including the Infirmary itself, grouped together in an area referred to as the Campus. This includes the Healer Academy.

Residence Block

Suzerain

Unlike most other ranks, Healer suzerain apartments do not differ from other Healers.

Healer

There are multiple Healer residence buildings in the block. Residence buildings are L-shaped and arranged in sets of four which surround a courtyard. Each residence building uses the corner of the L-shape to contain a stairwell from ground to top floor and a front desk with Makers working behind it.

Residence block grouping

The Healer residence apartments are smaller than the other ranks and comprise of a single studio style room and a bathroom. There are several communal kitchens on each residence floor.

Healers and Specialisms

Healers can work in a variety of locations, from the Infirmary clinic to the in-house medical team in the Penitentiary or Newly-Reborn Medical Centre. They can also choose to train for a specialism, such as nursing, aerynology or surgery. Healers who are not working in a specialism are referred to as clinicians.

Specialisms

When Healers choose to specialise they are referred to as specialists. As an entirety a type of specialist grouped into a department is referred to as a specialist unit. Each specialism forms a department with a Head of Specialism to lead it. Specialisms include aerynology, immunology, surgery, rebornology, neurology, etc.

Chemists

Chemists are responsible for creating and improving all of the medicine used in both the Infirmary and available over the counter in stores around Aelin.

Chemists also work in all areas of the clinical laboratory, including blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology, histology and microbiology. They are responsible for performing chemical, hematological, immunologic, histopathological, cytopathological, microscopic, and bacteriological diagnostic analyses on body fluids such as blood, urine, sputum, stool, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), peritoneal fluid, pericardial fluid, and synovial fluid, as well as other specimens.
