Find out more about the original aelinuan homeland on Ephillion.
Aelin is a country in the south of Ephasia, Ephillion's largest continent. The inhabitants of Aelin are known as Aelinites. The capital of Aelin is Aelin City.
The population is split into ranks which have various responsibilities and concentrations. The country's government consists of the leaders of each of the ranks and their subdivisions. In terms of direct governance the country is generally split into four jurisdictions that are managed by the Guardian suzerain, the Marshals. The government is overseen and supervised by the Peers, a small body that is separate from the main rank system.

Citizens of Aelin are divided into five main ranks for the purposes of housing and work; Makers, Guardians, Healers, Celestials and Strikers. They join a rank at the age of eighty, once they have matured and are no longer Newly-Reborns. It is very rare for an Aelinite to change rank once joined. A part of immigration involves the selection and joining of a rank. Some of the ranks are subdivided into divisions and each rank and division is headed by a suzerain.
In addition to the main ranks, the population also includes the Newly-Reborns at 0.3% and Peers at 0.01%.
When aelinuans are born in Aelin they live on Wariyla Isle in Aelin City for the first eighty years while they mature and are given a basic education. They are not allowed to leave the island during this time except for organised outings; this is partly for monitoring and quarantine due to their weak immune systems and vecrucia instability.
Newly-Reborns are educated by Yellows. Until the year [], Yellows also managed the Newly-Reborns on a general basis with some hired Maker staff, however a policy change was implemented after which Healers began to do the management and day to day care instead. Individuals who look after Newly-Reborns are referred to as minders. All care and resources for Newly-Reborns are provided by the state. They are given a small allowance for personal items that they can 'spend' in a facility on the island.
Peers are a group consisting of a small set number of individuals who can be elevated from any of the other ranks. They act as a governing/supervisory body overseeing the activities of other ranks and their suzerain as well as deciding the direction of the country as a whole. They are the body deciding Aelin's desired status and attitude in relation to other countries and the direction and disposition of the military.
Aelin City is a large settlement in the south of Ephillion's largest continent. It is surrounded by a circular metiphan wall and has four gated entry points. The settlement is split into four districts by the rivers; two rivers feed in from the north-west and north-east to Aeternia in the centre and two rivers travel out from Aeternia to exit in the south-east and south-west. The four city districts are Northford, Eastley, Southerton and Westaine.
There is a Park in the centre of the city with Aeternia's Glade in the middle. The tram lines run in a circle around the Park, with half a kilometre between the tracks and the beginning of the Park. Streets in Aelin City are not named, buildings are instead known to be in specific subareas. The only exception to this is Main Street, which is not used for addresses but is used by the public to identify the most popular areas of the commercial districts.

Aelin City is divided into four districts: Northford, Eastley, Southerton and Westaine.
Each rank has a residence block, a collection of large apartment buildings, for its people to live in. When an aelinuan is ranked they are automatically assigned an apartment in an appropriate residence block and building. The size, layout and rooms in an apartment depends on which rank the residence block belongs to.
The immediate area surrounding Aeternia and her pool, which is respected as a holy place and is used for religious ceremonies and sermons, is known as Aeternia's Glade. The glade is situated almost directly in the centre of Aelin City Park and is also where the Aelin City Shrine is located.
Two rivers filter into Aelin City through grates low in the walls between the northern and western and northern and eastern gates. These rivers meet in the centre of Aelin City beneath Aeternia. The pool of water Aeternia sits in is slightly golden; the water appears blue except in the pool in Aeternia's Glade. The rivers then flow out of Aelin City in two directions between the southern and eastern gates and the southern and western gates. Both rivers eventually reach the Evsolic Ocean in the south.
The rivers flowing through Aelin are:
Most buildings possess wards, magic that protects and limits access to a particular space. Residence block apartments have individual wards keyed to the person who owns that apartment; the owner can change their wards to automatically allow access to certain individuals, but otherwise it is not possible for someone other than the owner to enter the space without invitation.
The modern system allows individuals to change their whitelist of people via their nomnacard, however in the past they would have had to make a request to the Makers running the building front desk who could make a manual change for them.
When an aelinuan graduates from being a Newly-Reborn they are given a nomnacard, which is a durable card made of rivbac and is 85.60 mm × 53.98 mm. One side is blank when dormant and the other has the aelinuan's rank emblem in the four jurisdiction colours. Also on the master side is the aelinuan's name, printed on the bottom right corner, and on the opposite side a thumbprint symbol which is how services are accessed. The card is linked to that aelinuan via their nomnature.

Non-residents can also apply for a nomnacard, which is very similar to the citizen version but is made of haelea and has a black rendition of the Aelin flag, the aetri and five stars, instead of the rank emblem.
Nomnacard services are accessed by its owner tapping the thumbprint symbol; this causes the opposing side to activate as a screen of sorts, providing options to allow them to begin to use the various services they have available to them.
The services at their most basic allow for:
The services can be added to at the owner's discretion. Most can be activated by applying to the owners of that service; for example, access to bank accounts can be granted by Financiers. Services can also be locked if they are abused.
Available services are more limited for non-citizens.
People can only be added to wards in person, as the nomnacard needs to be able to scan them to do so.
