A vecrucia magic type.
Uniqua is a personality-based type of magic that comes from one of the five vecrucia within an aelinuan's body. When an aelinuan's reserve of uniqua gets low the user is no longer able to make use of any of the four types they possess.
An aelinuan is not able to use uniqua when they are first born, however at some point during their maturation, their uniqua will develop to the point that it may be used and at that stage they will be able to be taught how to interact with all four of the types.
All aelinuans are graded as advanced, intermediate or basic for each type. This grade indicates their capability with each type and opens up particular skills specific to that grade. Aelinuans begin as basic for all types and depending on their vecrucia level they may be able to choose to progress certain types to higher grades. If an aelinuan is able to progress with a type and starts seriously advancing into the next grade, it will lock in and count towards their natural limitations. For example, if they are able to have only one type at an intermediate grade then whichever type they pass the threshold to intermediate with will become the only one they are able to do so with.
Uniqua is categorised into types. There are two distinct categories for uniqua types, Body and Mind, and each of those categories has two types. There is no Essence uniqua type category because humans do not possess uniqua and therefore it cannot be carried across into aelinuan existence.
All aelinuans have all four uniqua types, the difference can be in how competent they are and how much their vecrucia can contain. For example, those with level five uniqua have vecrucia that can contain the most uniqua, which means they can use all four types to a high level. Those with level one, on the other hand, have the smallest capacity for uniqua and therefore struggle the most with uniqua usage.
This type of magic is actioned either by gesture, voice or the written word. The easiest method for a user is based around personality traits affiliated with that method. The collection of traits the user most identifies with determines which is appropriate:
| Method | Traits | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Gestural | Carefree | Independant | Social |
| Lingual | Kind | Moral | Self-assured |
| Written | Determined | Introspective | Self-reliant |
The task the user is trying to achieve is not affected by the method used; the same action can be done by all of the methods. The user can also use various means for the method, for example writing on a body or in the air is just as effective as physically writing on paper.
A type of magic focussed on the physical senses; sight, smell, sound, taste and touch. The senses that can be affected by xirradiq is based on the user's personality:
| Sense | Traits | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Sight | Goal-oriented | Focused | Perfectionist |
| Smell | Curious | Secretive | Nostalgic |
| Sound | Steady | Calm | Receptive |
| Taste | Refined | Articulate | Critical |
| Touch | Innovative | Approachable | Tactile |
At the basic grade, the user can choose to enhance or diminish one sense based on their personality. For example, if the user suits the traits associated with sight they are able to enhance or diminish their sight. It is much better than the embodia equivalent.
At the intermediate grade, the user can choose to enhance or diminish multiple senses based on their personality and can also use additional skills based on their affectable senses. Only one skill can be used at a time.
| Sense | Skills | |
|---|---|---|
| Sight | Night vision | Telescopic vision |
| Smell | Hunt | Pheremones |
| Sound | Diagnostics | Echolocation |
| Taste | Temperature | Tension |
| Touch | Equilibrium | Pain |
This type of magic allows for storing a uniqua process or attribute in an item, which is then be referred to as an aperio. Users are able to sense that an item is an aperio, it very quietly hums. There are two methods for building an aperio, the one that comes easiest to the user is based around personality traits affiliated with that method:
| Method | Traits | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Layer | Mind | Logical | Planner |
| Puzzle | Heart | Emotive | Spontaneous |
The more complicated the property or process to be imbued, the more difficult it is to complete. The user must be touching the item in order to imbue it and it is more difficult to imbue an item if there are other people touching it due to interference (whether intentional or not). The exception to this is with Pairs.
Basic level aperio are not self-maintaining and therefore must be fueled by the user's uniqua, however higher level aperio can be made self-sustaining to an extent.
The purer (i.e. less processed) an item is, the easier it is to imbue with uniqua, e.g. A rock or crystal is very easy to imbue, however a book would be more difficult due to the amount of work that has been done to create it.
An aperio can be formed of multiple fragments. Effects or properties can be changed by removing old fragments and replacing them with new ones. It can be long winded and time consuming to create or finish an aperio, however it does not all need to be done in one session. Complicated aperio can be created in stages and can be in a workable state even if not all stages are complete.
There are two methods of creating an aperio:
Layer method
Puzzle method
A magic type based on elements, users specialise in elements they feel affinity for and understand based on personality characteristics.
| Element | Traits | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Air | Playful | Restless | Whimsical |
| Earth | Grounded | Stable | Stolid |
| Fire | Capricious | Chaotic | Willful |
| Ice | Composed | Distant | Private |
| Lightning | Adventurous | Confident | Protective |
| Metal | Assertive | Disciplined | Independant |
| Plant | Compassionate | Diligent | Nurturing |
| Water | Adaptable | Astute | Mellow |
When the user relates to an element's characteristics strongly enough they are said to have an affinity with it. Without an affinity for an element, the user cannot use that variation of eltalymia.
Elemental affinities can only change if the user's personality undergoes drastic change, thereby changing how they relate to the underlying characteristics of those elements.
Creating an element requires constant use of a user's uniqua in order to produce and maintain control of it.
The element can be created from nothing except the user's uniqua, i.e. there is no need for the element to exist in any form in advance.
